ST PAULS – For the 2nd consecutive meet, the West Bladen girls and the Clinton boys claimed Southeastern Athletic Conference track & field victories Thursday. The West Bladen boys finished 3rd with 104 points behind Clinton (158.5) and St. Pauls (116) and ahead of 4th place East Bladen (58.5).
Coach Stanley Williams’ Lady Knights piled up 135 points to take the top spot ahead of Fairmont (84) and St. Pauls (81). East Bladen was 4th with 72 points.
Junior Trinity VanEyken sparked the Lady Knights by posting victories in both the 100 meter hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles. Senior Shanyla Hunter and junior Kiera Lewis finished 1-2 in the long jump. Lewis was also 2nd in the 100 meters, and Hunter added a 3rd place in the 100 meters.
Junior Adairis Jimenez won the 3200 meter run for West. The 4×100 and 4×400 meter relay teams recorded victories. Junior Harmony Jacobs was 2nd in the shot put, and senior Azillyah McDonald was 2nd in the 100 meter hurdles and 4th in the 300 meter hurdles.
Senior Reema Virden claimed victories for East Bladen in both the 800 meter and 1600 meter runs. The East 4×200 meter girls relay team won. Senior Naihena Leach placed 2nd in the 400 meters followed by senior Sabara McLean who was third. Senior Savanna Howell was 2nd in the triple jump.
In the boys events, Knight junior Malijah McKoy and senior Tydrick Stewart finished 1-2 in the 100 meter dash. Sophomore Demon’tre Love recorded 2nd place finishes in the 800 meters, 1600 meters and 3200 meter runs.
The West Bladen 4×100 meter and 4×200 meter relay teams won their events, and junior Travis Baxley placed 2nd in the triple jump and 3rd in the 400 meters.
East Bladen senior Jadon Pridgen won the discus and finished 2nd in the shot put to score 18 points for the Eagles.
