DUBLIN – A 23-8 second quarter spurt produced a 37-18 halftime lead for Red Springs en route to a 66-41 non-conference girls basketball victory over West Bladen.
The two teams combined for 22 turnovers in a sloppy first quarter. Red Springs grabbed a 7-0 lead, before West junior Patience Parker sank 2 free throws and senior Akira Grimes put back a rebound.
Senior Laikyn Pait cashed in a pair of turn-around shots off of feeds from senior Logan Autry. Autry then found junior Elizabeth Allbright in the lane, and Allbright flipped in an 8-footer for a 10-8 Lady Knight lead.
Red Springs closed the period with a 6-0 run to take a 14-10 lead. Senior Jerena Purdie muscled in a rebound to start the second quarter and trim the margin to 14-12.
After a 5-0 Red Springs run, Pait spun thru the lane for a lay-up that kept West within 19-14. Allbright powered in a follow shot and added a free throw to keep the Lady Kngihts within 23-17, but a 14-1 Lady Red Devil blitz made it 37-18 at halftime.
A Pait turn-around shot and a Parker transition lay-up highlighted the Lady Knight third period. Autry and Grimes nailed 3-point shots in the final period for West, and Parker also tallied 3 points in the quarter.
Pait led the Lady Knights with 9 points and 8 rebounds. Parker followed with 8 points, and Grimes totaled 7 points and 6 rebounds. Allbright added 5 points.
Six different Lady Red Devils combined to drain eight 3-point shots. Taya Jones led the winners with 16 points. Sanatasia Powell followed with 14 points, and Victoria Henderson nailed a trio of 3-pointers to finish with 11 points.
