Monday was the first official day of practice for Bladen County’s high school football teams, and the milder weather certainly made it more enjoyable for players and coaches.
Coach Kris Williams’ West Bladen Knights practiced Monday morning. “The weather was awesome,” said Williams. “I don’t recall it ever being 59 degrees on a July morning.”
‘The weather was a pleasant change,” said East Bladen Coach Robby Priest whose Eagles practiced Monday evening.
Coach Priest said, “Practice went pretty good. Everybody showed up that was supposed to. We had about 60 head between jayvee and varsity.”
At West Bladen Coach Williams noted that the first day practice went well but added, “We need some more bodies. We had 28 but I got in touch with 15 kids this afternoon who said they were going to play.
“We had 2 in drivers ed, 4 out of town and the others are athletic physical issues or travel issues,” continued Williams. “Plus we always have freshmen that will come out late.”
