WINGATE – Elizabethtown native Ann Hancock coached her Wingate Bulldogs to the women’s basketball tournament championship of the 2024 South Atlantic Conference that earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament for Wingate.
It was the 6th women’s basketball championship that Wingate’s teams have won under Hancock. Wingate claimed this year’s title with wins over Lincoln Memorial 57-54, 13th-ranked Catawba 90-77 and 85-69 over Carson-Newman in the championship game.
Anderson University defeated Wingate in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs finished the season with a 22-10 record. In 12 seasons at her alma mater, Hancock’s teams have posted a 251-109 record, won 6 SAC championships and have qualified for the NCAA Tournament 8 times.
