RED SPRINGS –Senior Ty Mathis pitched a 3-hitter and struck out 8 batters to lead East Bladen to a 10-2 Southeastern Athletic Conference baseball victory over Red Springs.

The Eagles jumped in front with a 3-run 1st inning. Senior Evan Pait reached base on an error. Senior Zamar Lewis was hit by a pitch, and Mathis walked. Junior Lee Barnes reached on an error that scored Pait. Junior Jake Futrell walked to force home Lewis, and Mathis dashed home on a wild pitch.

The Red Devils bunched singles by T. Hammonds and I. Locklear, a hit batter, 2 walks and a fielder’s choice to score 2 runs in the 2nd inning and whittle the margin to 3-2.

Senior Marlan Davis walked, and Lewis and Barnes were hit by pitches to start the Eagle 4th inning. Davis darted home on a passed ball, and an error on Futrell’s grounder plated Lewis and Barnes. Senior Garrison Tatum knocked in Futrell with a single that padded the East lead to 7-2.

Garrison Tatum led off the Eagle 6th inning with a single, stole 2nd base and senior Coleman Tatum belted a single to right field that scored his brother, Garrison. After Coleman Tatum was picked off base, junior Tyler Johnson reached on a passed 3rd strike. Davis was hit by a pitch, and Pait scorched a single to left. Lewis walked to force home Johnson and push the lead to 9-2.

Senior Weston Hatcher and Garrison Tatum reached base on errors in the 7th inning. Coleman Tatum’s ground-out scored Hatcher with the final run.

Garrison Tatum batted 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored to lead the Eagle hitters. Junior Parker Greene slammed a double. Pait and Coleman Tatum had the other East Bladen hits. Futrell had 2 RBIs and Coleman Tatum and Lewis had 1 RBI each.

Lewis scored 2 runs, and Davis, Pait, Mathis, Barnes, Futrell, Hatcher and Johnson scored 1 run each. Red Springs committed 7 errors in the game, walked 3 batters and hit 6 batters with pitches.

Coach Grant Pait’s Eagles improved to 4-5 in league play and 8-10 overall and will host South Brunswick Wednesday night.
