LAKE WACCAMAW – Landyn Potter and Aaron Mitchell combined to pitch a one-hitter and strike-out 8 batters as they led East Columbus to a 9-1 Three Rivers Conference baseball victory over West Bladen Thursday night.

Potter hurled 5 hitless innings, struck out 4 batters and walking three. Mitchell relieved and gave up a run on 1 hit and a walk while striking out four.

Mitchell batted 2-for-4 with 3 runs batted in to lead the Gator hitters. Potter doubled home a run, and teammate Coltin Simmons scored twice and drove in 2 runs.

Mitchell singled and raced home with the 1st run of the game on Potter’s double to right field in the bottom of the 4th inning. Mitchell’s 2-run single highlighted a 4-run Gator 5th inning that broke the game open.

Sophomore Hunter Smith walked to begin the Knight 6th inning, stole 2nd base and raced home when junior Brycen Blackmon walloped a double to left field.

East Columbus tacked on 4 more runs in the home 6th on an error, a hit batter, 2 walks and Elijah Bunting’s single.

Junior Kaiden Stanley started on the hill for the Knights and pitched 4.1 innings allowing 5 runs – 4 earned – on 4 hits and 5 walks while striking out six. Junior Alex Brisson pitched 0.2 innings and gave up 3 runs – 2 earned – on 2 hits while striking out two. Sophomore Michael Young finished up with an inning on the mound allowing a run on 2 walks and no hits.

West Bladen, now 1-2 in league play and 2-6 overall, will travel to Whiteville for their next game on May 28th.
