FAIRMONT – Sophomore Mynkoda Smith and senior Noah Parker combined to pitch a 6-hitter and strike out 10 batters as Fairmont defeated West Bladen 4-1 Tuesday night in Southeastern Athletic Conference baseball action.

Smith allowed 1 run on 6 hits and 2 walks in his 6 innings on the mound and struck out 8 batters. Parker walked 1 and struck out 2 in his scoreless, hitless inning of relief.

Parker slammed a double to right field that scored Roderick Deese who had singled in the Tornado 3rd inning. Parker scored on Kenley Callahan’s sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead.

Deese and Parker drew walks in the Fairmont 5th inning and raced home when Callahan doubled to right to stretch the lead to 4-0.

Sophomore Garrett Dunham ripped a single to left to start the Knight 6th inning. Sophomore Brady Durden swatted a single to right, and junior Jordan Hester knocked in Dunham with a single to centerfield.

Durden batted 2-for-3 to lead the West hitters. Dunham finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored. Hester belted the RBI single, and sophomore Cade Allen collected the other Knight hit.

Dunham pitched all 6 innings for the Knights allowing 4 runs – 3 earned – on 6 hits and 3 walks while striking out 8.

West Bladen, now 3-2 in SAC-7 play and 10-4 overall, will host Fairmont Wednesday night in a rematch at ‘The Castle’. The Tornadoes are 4-3 in the SAC-7 and 9-4 overall.
