BLADENBORO — Freshman Ashton Davis walloped a 3-run triple that highlighted an 8-run 4th inning and propelled West Bladen’s Knights to a 12-0 Southeastern Athletic Conference baseball victory over St. Pauls Tuesday night.

Coach Wade Pait’s Knights improved to 3-2 in the SAC and 7-9 overall and will travel to St. Pauls Friday night for a return match. The Bulldogs are 1-4 in league play and 5-11 overall and have a game at Union Pines scheduled for Thursday night.

With West up 4-0, sophomore Hunter Hester reached base on an error to begin the home 4th and raced home when junior Brady Durden ripped a double to left field. Sophomore Josh Dawson walked, and junior Garrett Dunham reached base on an error. Davis then cleaned the bases with his triple that scored Keon Whittington, the courtesy runner for Durden, Jonah Bryan, the courtesy runner for Dawson, and Dunham.

Junior Cade Allen was hit by a pitch, and senior Jordan Hester walked. Junior Allister Russ’ fielder’s choice plated Davis. Hunter Hester laced a single to center that scored Allen. Brady Durden reached base on an infield hit. Dawson reached base on an error that scored Allister Russ and Hunter Hester.

Hunter Hester started on the mound for West and pitched 3.2 no-hit scoreless innings allowing 3 walks while striking out 4. Brady Durden gave up 2 hits and no walks in his 1.1 scoreless innings of relief while striking out 1.

Brady Durden batted 2-for-3 with a double and a run batted in to lead the Knight hitters. Davis had the 3-run triple and scored twice. Hunter Hester, Allen and Dunham added a single each. Allister Russ and Hunter Hester had 1 RBI each. Dunham, Allen, Bryan and Hunter Hester scored 2 runs each. Allister Russ and Whittington scored 1 run each.

Dunham roped a single to left to start the Knight 1st inning, sprinted to 3rd base on an error and scooted home on a wild pitch. Davis walked, and Allen raked a single to left. Jordan Hester reached on an error that scored Davis. Allen scored on another error for a 3-0 West lead.

Dawson was hit by a pitch in the West 2nd inning. Bryan, the courtesy runner for Dawson, stole 2nd base, advanced on a fielder’s choice then scampered home on a passed ball.

Joshua Garner doubled in the 4th inning for the 1st Bulldog hit. Tyler Lavoie singled for the other St. Pauls’ hit. Sophomore Cailen McNeill pitched 3.2 innings for the Bulldogs and allowed 12 runs – 2 earned – on 6 hits and 3 walks. Senior Skylar Lancaster retired the only batter that he faced in the 4th inning.
