The Sandpipers pulled away with a 6-run third inning to claim a 20-11 victory over the Force in Bladen Recreation 11-12 Softball action Tuesday at County Park.
The Sandpipers scored 8 runs in the top of the first inning as Acee Campbell, Alexus Mitchell, Maegan Burney, AnnaGrey Heustess, Briley Stanley, Kayla Norris, and Daenata Edler drew walks and scored runs in the inning. Alexis Edwards was hit by a pitch and scored, and Mitchell smacked a 2-run single.
Lauren Pait was hit by a pitch and scored in the Force half of the first. Megan West and Taylor Lewis drew walks and scored runs, and Amber Hickman knocked in a run with a single and later scored the fourth Force run.
In the Sandpiper second, Burney, Norris, Edwards and Edler drew walks and scored runs. Stanley belted a run-scoring single and scored a run. Campbell was hit by a pitch and scored a run, and Mitchell drove in 2 runs with a single that stretched the lead to 14-4.
The Force rallied with 6 runs in the second. Hannah Hester walked and scored when Brooke Priest belted a single. Priest and Kylee Kellam who was hit by a pitch later scored runs. Makayla Wright, Lauren Pait and Emily Pait drew walks and scored runs in the inning. Hickman drove in a run with an infield hit to whittle the Sandpiper lead to 14-10.
Norris cracked a single and scored a run to start the Sandpiper third inning rally. Edwards, Edler, Tyresha McNair and Campbell drew walks and scored runs. Burney beat out an infield hit to drive in a run and later scored as the lead grew to 20-10.
The Force tacked on a run in the home third. Priest started the rally with a single. Wright and Lauren Pait drew walks, and Burney was hit by a pitch to force home Priest with the run.
Campbell, Mitchell, Burney, Heustess, Stanley and Norris collected one hit each for the winners. Campbell and Mitchell drove in 2 runs each, and Burney and Stanley drove in one run each.
Campbell, Norris, Edwards and Edler scored 3 runs each. Burney and Stanley scored 2 runs each, and Mitchell, Heustess and McNair scored one run each.
Heustess struck out six batters in her 3 innings of work in the circle for the Sandpipers.
Hickman batted 2-2 with 2 runs batted in and a run scored for the Force. Priest finished 2-2 at the plate with an rbi and 2 runs scored. Burney had an rbi, and Lauren Pait scored 2 runs. Wright, Burney, Emily Pait, Lewis, Hester and Kellam scored one run each.
