BLADENBORO — Tuesday night’s Elizabethtown/Bladenboro game in the opening round of the Bladen County Middle School Girls Basketball Tournament was stopped by the officials in the middle of the 3rd quarter and Elizabethtown was awarded the berth in the championship game since they were leading 27-13 at the point of stoppage.

The incident began with 2 players jawing at each other, and when officials tried to separate them parents came out on the floor and the decision was eventually made to end the game.

Coach Cedric Owens’ Lady Cougars (10-2) will play Clarkton School of Discovery Thursday at 4 p.m. for the girls’ title. Bladenboro, the Waccamaw Middle School Conference’s ‘AA’ Division co-champions, has completed their season.

Ellen Battle scored 12 points to lead Elizabethtown. Zariyahh Riddy finished with 6 points, and Sana’a Singletary tallied 5 points. Teammate Racquel Whittington added 4 points.

Addison Wilcox pumped in 6 points for Bladenboro. Allison Hickman followed with 4 points. Adyson Carroll tossed in a basket, and Hadley Dove netted a free throw.
