BLADENBORO — Elizabethtown’s inside duo of Ellen Battle and Sana’a Singletary combined for 29 points and 19 rebounds Wednesday to lead the Lady Cougars to a 41-12 middle school victory over Clarkton School of Discovery in the championship game of the Bladen County Girls Tournament.
Coach Cedric Owens’ Lady Cougars completed their season with an 11-2 record. The Lady Blue Devils finished with a 3-9 record.
Battle posted a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead Elizabethtown, and Singletary contributed 13 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals. Teammate Racquel Whittington was a defensive spark-plug with 7 steals and 4 points. Shamairrha Mceachin added 2 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals.
Tiekeriah Tisdale and Zoey Barger led the Lady Blue Devils with 3 points each. Barger also pulled down 5 rebounds. Teammate Rahnyiah McLean grabbed 9 rebounds and tallied 2 points. Trinity Davis snared 4 rebounds, and Hailey Taylor contributed 3 rebounds and 2 points.
Zariyah Riddy put back a rebound, Morgan Hammon dropped in a lay-up, and Battle drove for a pair of lay-ups as Elizabethtown jumped in front 8-1. Tisdale sank a free throw for Clarkton.
Singletary raced for a lay-up to begin the 2nd period. Whittington stole the ball and dashed for a lay-up. Mceachin banked in a 10-footer, and Battle scored twice in transition as the lead grew to 18-1 at halftime.
Singletary drove for 4 lay-ups and netted a free throw in the 3rd quarter, and Battle flipped in a lay-up. Barger and Taylor banked in follow shots for Clarkton. Barger tacked on a free throw, and McLean threw in an 8-footer to keep the Lady Blue Devils within 29-8.
Battle tossed in a follow shot, a lay-up and a runner in the final quarter for Elizabethtown. Singletary drove for a lay-up, Whittington turned another steal into a lay-up, and Alexandra Riveria threw in a baseline runner. Tisdale canned 2 free throws, and Kynzlee Wood closed out the Clarkton scoring with a lay-up.
