Bladen County NCDOT Update Ken Clark Bladen County Maintenance Engineer

NC 87 – Southbound
Due to the extreme heat, the railroad did not finish the rail crossing work on NC 87 today which in turn pushes the paving schedule back. Rather than open the road on Wednesday only to reclose it again on Friday, we have decided to leave the southbound lanes of NC 87 at the railroad crossing just south of the Cumberland County Line closed. On Friday, the northbound lanes will be closed such that both directions will remain closed over the weekend and into early next week. A signed detour will be in effect to use County Line Road (Cumberland County), Chickenfoot Road, and NC 20 back out to NC 87.

NC 87 – Hammond Creek Bridge
As of noon today, NC 87 is closed at the Hammond Creek bridge for approximately 6-8 weeks while crews rehab the bridge deck. A signed detour will be in effect to use SR 1704 (Airport Road) and SR 1709 (Coley Road).

SR 1700 (Mercer Mill Road)
SR 1700 is close at a location 1.13 miles north of US 701 Business. There is no signed detour; however, recommend using US 701 and SR 1711 (Harrelson Road) for access around the work area.

The good news for the week….Contract Road Oil operations were completed over the weekend.
