Why is this important? The 2018 Bladen County Community Health Assessment found that diabetes is the fifth leading cause of death in our county. Secondly, one in three adults in the U.S. has prediabetes. The Eat Smart, Move More, Prevent Diabetes program is a proven program to prevent or delay the onset of diabetes.
Do you have prediabetes? How can you tell? Prediabetes is when blood glucose (sugar) levels in your blood are higher than normal, but not high enough to be diagnosed with diabetes. Many people find out they have prediabetes when they go to a health care professional and have their blood glucose(sugar) tested. You may be at risk for developing type 2 diabetes and not even know it. If you have been diagnosed with prediabetes, or are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes, this program is for you!
What are the classes like? The Eat Smart, Move More, Prevent Diabetes is a 12-month CDC-recognized diabetes prevention program held in real-time with a live instructor. The program uses evidence based strategies to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes. Online classes are primarily what are available at the moment.
Online classes are fully accessible by using a desktop, laptop, Smartphone, and tablet. Classes are conducted in an interactive format by a live, trained lifestyle coach. The format of the classes allows you to interact with your instructor and classmates. You will work through challenges together as a group and celebrate each other’s successes
