ELIZABETHTOWN — Four East Bladen hits, 2 walks and 3 Whiteville errors produced 7 East Bladen runs in the 3rd inning that sparked the Lady Eagles to an 11-1 mercy rule Waccamaw Conference softball victory over Whiteville Friday night.

Coach Alan West’s Lady Eagles improved their SAC record at 5-7 and are 8-9 overall. East Bladen will visit East Duplin Wednesday night in a non-conference game. The Lady Wolfpack dropped to 5-5 in the league and 8-11 overall.

Margaret Cartrette slugged a solo home run to center field in the 2nd inning to account for the only Whiteville run.

Sophomore Cabria Baldwin bunted and reached base on an error to start the East 3rd inning. Baldwin stole a base then advanced on a wild pitch before scoring as freshman Taylor Dowless reached base on an error. Junior Martha Simmons laced a single to right field after Dowless stole a base.

Dowless scored on a passed ball, and Simmons scored as junior Mollie Tolar reached base on an error. Tolar stole 3rd base and raced home on an error. Sophomore Gracie Clark and freshman Tatum Allen drew walks. Freshman Jamiee Perkins yanked a single to left that plated Clark. Baldwin belted a single that scored Allen, and Dowless raked a single to left that scored Perkins for a 7-1 lead.

Simmons beat out a single, stole a base and scored when sophomore Niyah Wooten smoked a single to left. Sophomore Jenna Brice lined a single to center, and Wooten scored on Clark’s fielder’s choice. Nadya Colon, the courtesy runner for Brice, stole a base then scooted home when Allen clubbed a single to left for a 10-1 lead.

Dowless rapped a single to center in the Lady Eagle 5th inning. Simmons reached base on an error, and Tolar’s fielder’s choice plated Dowless with the game-ending run.

Dowless batted 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored.to lead the East hitters. Wooten batted 2-for-3 with a run batted in and a run scored Simmons finished 2-for-4 at the plate and scored 2 runs. Brice, Baldwin, Perkins and Allen added 1 hit each. Tolar had 2 RBIs, and Clark, Allen, Perkins and Baldwin had 1 RBI each. Baldwin, Colon, Perkins, Allen, Clark and Tolar scored 1 run each.

Brice pitched 5 innings and allowed a run on 6 hits while striking out 1 to pick up the win.

Sophomore Chesney Cribb led the Lady Wolfpack with 2 hits. Cartrette walloped the solo homer. Cartrette worked 3.1 innings in the circle and allowed 10 runs – 3 earned – on 8 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5. Madalyn Edge worked 1.1 innings of relief and allowed a run on 2 hits.
