ELIZABETHTOWN – Bladen County Hospital has been awarded a Gold Seal of Accreditation for computed tomography (CT).

The American College of Radiology (ACR) granted the three-year accreditation after a recent review of the Elizabethtown facility. CT scans, also known as CAT scans, are noninvasive imaging tests that helps physicians diagnose and plan treatment for various medical conditions.

The ACR Gold Seal of Accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded to facilities meeting ACR practice guidelines and technical standards after a peer-review. Board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field conduct the review.

Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs are assessed. Findings are reported to the ACR for a comprehensive findings report that can be used for continuous practice improvement.

The ACR is a national professional organization serving more than 36,000 diagnostic and interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians and medical physicists.
