The Force were awarded a forfeit Thursday night when the Sandpipers could only field eight players. The teams then played three innings for the fun of it, and the Sandpipers outscored the Force 13-9 in Bladen Recreation 11-12 Softball action at County Park.

The Sandpipers scored 8 runs in the bottom of the first as Acee Campbell and Lainey Autry walked twice each and AnnaGrey Heustess, Alexus Mitchell, Briley Stanley, Daenata Edler, and Kayla Norris drew one walk each.

Campbell scored twice, and Autry, Heustess, Mitchell, Stanley, Edler and Norris scored one run each. Heustess drove in a run with an infield hit, and Mitchell knocked in a run with a single.

Lauren Gooden and Taylor Lewis belted singles in the Force second inning, and Gooden scored the first Force run.

The Sandpipers tacked on 3 runs in the second. Norris and Campbell cracked singles, and Autry slammed a double to drive in both runners. Autry scooted home on a throwing error for an 11-1 lead.

The Force answered with 8 runs in the top of the third. Amber Hickman, Lewis and Whitney McLean were hit by pitches, and Hannah Hester, Makayla Wright, Lauren Pait, Megan West, Gooden and Hannah Pait all drew walks.

Hickman, Hester, Wright, Lauren Pait, West, Gooden, Lewis and McLean all scored to trim the lead to 11-9.

Stanley and Edler led off the Sandpiper third with walks, and Norris beat out an infield hit. A throwing error on Campbell’s grounder scored Stanley and Edler.

Heustess struck out 5 batters in 3 innings for the Sandpipers. Norris batted 2-2 to lead the Sandpiper hitters. Autry hammered the 2-run double, and Campbell, Mitchell and Heustess connected for one hit each.

Gooden and Lewis led the Force with one hit each.
