Pitcher Rylee Chadwick slugged a grand-slam home run and struck out 11 batters to lead the Thunder to a 16-2 victory over the Force in Bladen Recreation 11-12 Softball Tuesday night at County Park.
Chadwick pitched a 3-hitter and walked five in her 4 innings on the mound. Lauren Gooden pitched all 5 innings for the Force.
The Thunder grabbed a 3-0 first inning lead as Lainey Hughes walked, and Chadwick reached base on an error. Savannah Turbeville ripped a 2-run single that scored Hughes and Chadwick. Kaden Thurman connected for a single that scored Turbeville.
A 7-run second-inning opened up a 10-0 Thunder lead. Nyla Hunter, Hayley Bryan, Lainey Autry and Lainey Hughes drew walks to begin the inning, and Hughes’ walk forced home Hunter. Chadwick then drilled her home run to the left-centerfield fence that scored Bryan, Autry and Hughes ahead of her.
Turbeville belted a single, and Megan West walked. Thurman smacked a single, and Laci Storms walked. Whitney McLean knocked in West and Thurman with a single.
Hannah Pait walked in the Force half of the second and raced home when Madilyn Brisson slammed a single.
The Force added a run in the third as Ava Mohr walked, and Taylor Lewis punched a single off the first base bag. Walks to Lauren Gooden and Madison Larrimore forced home Mohr.
The Thunder ended the game on the mercy rule with 6 runs in the fourth. Walks to Storms, McLean, Hunter and Bryan forced home Storms. Autry yanked a single to left that scored McLean and Hunter.
Hughes was hit by a pitch and Chadwick walked. Turbeville’s fielder’s choice scored Bryan. West was hit by a pitch and Thurman walked to force home Autry. Hughes darted home on an error.
Turbeville and Thurman both batted 2-3 to lead the Thunder hitters. Chadwick clobbered the grand-slam home run, and Autry and McLean delivered 2-run singles. Hunter contributed the other Thunder hit.
Kolee Wilkins, Lewis and Brisson collected one hit each for the Force.
The Thunder improved to 4-0 in the league.
