The Bladen County Sheriff’s Office training officers, Sgt. Barry Pait and Sgt. Gary Turlington were invited by the Southeast District of NC 4-H to offer a workshop at Teen Retreat this past weekend. The location was the FFA camp in White Lake, NC.

The two instructors taught the group of 25 teenagers in the basics of self-defense. Specifically covered were situational awareness techniques and various escapes from assaultive aggressors.

Stacie Kinlaw,Extension Agent, 4-H Youth Development, said, “This was one of the most requested topics for workshops by the attending youth and the instructors did not disappoint. The youth enjoyed the workshop information, the hands on instructional methods; but at the same time I think understood the seriousness of the topic.”

“The BCSO Training Division is always available to assist members of our community in any way possible,” said Sgt. Turlington. He added Sheriff Jim McVicker fully supports community involvement requests. Specifically, programs that bolster safety and security of our citizens.

“Our primary mission is to serve the citizens of our area and to improve security awareness,” said Turlington.
