The Bladenboro Board of Commissioners met in a quick called session to handle some business that couldn’t wait until the regular July 12th meeting.

With Commissioner Jeff Atkinson unable to attend, Mayor Rufus Duckworth called the meeting to order at 6 pm. Commissioner Greg Sykes provided the invocation, and all stood for the Pledge of Allegiance.

First on the agenda was a decision regarding a contract for concrete work around the stage beside the Medicine Shoppe downtown.

Following some acrimonious discussion, Commissioner Sarah Benson moved to award the contract to Doug Lacy as an add-on to work he was already performing for the Town; the motion was seconded by Commissioner Sykes.

After additional divisive discussion, the motion was passed on a vote of 3 to 2, with Commissioners John Bowen and Lisa Levy voting nay.

The second matter was basically fiscal housekeeping. Consideration was given to re-allocate moneys within the current budget. On a motion by Commissioner Benson and a second by Commissioner Levy, the re-allocation was unanimously approved.

With no additional matters on the agenda, the meeting was adjourned at 6:15 pm.
