BLADENBORO – Adyson Carroll hammered a 2-run inside-the-park walk-off home run in the 9th inning that lifted Bladenboro to a 17-16 Waccamaw Middle School Conference softball victory over Whiteville Central Thursday.

Coach Hayley Baxley’s Lady Bulldogs improved to 3-1 in league play and 7-2 overall and secured 2nd place in the conference with the win. Central finished 2-2 in league play and are 4-5 overall.

Whiteville used 2 walks, a hit batter and a fielder’s choice to score twice and take a 16-14 lead in the top of the 9th. Caity McLaurin reached base on an error to start the home 9th, and scored when Addison Wilcox blasted a triple to left field. Carroll then drilled her walk-off homer to the left-center field gap.

Wilcox blistered the ball with 5 hits in 6 at-bats including a triple, a double, 3 runs batted in and 4 runs scored. Kristen Singletary batted 2-for-5 with an RBI and 3 runs scored. Chloe Walters finished 2-for-5 at the plate with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored.

Allison Hickman batted 2-for-6 with 2 runs scored. Maycee Kinlaw finished 2-for-6 with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs. Carroll slugged the 2-run homer and scored twice. McLaurin, Hadley Dove and Brooklyn McKee added 1 hit each. McKee and Dove had 1 RBI each. Dove and McLaurin scored 2 runs each.

Kinlaw started in the circle and pitched the 1st 4 innings. Hickman worked innings 5 through 8 in relief before Kinlaw came back to pitch 2 batters into the 9th inning. Kinlaw finished with 5 innings of work and allowed 11 runs – 3 earned – on 9 hits and a walk while striking out 7. Hickman worked 4 innings and allowed 5 runs – 2 earned – on 2 hits and 7 walks while striking out 10.

Central scored 4 runs in the 1st inning on 3 hits, an error and a walk. Bladenboro answered with 4 runs in the 2nd. Wilcox yanked a single to left, and Carroll reached base on an error. Dove belted a single to center. Wilcox stole home, and Walters reached base on an error. Kristen Singletary lined a single to left that plated Dove. Kinlaw smashed a double to left that scored Walters and Singletary.

Hickman reached base on an error, and Wilcox swatted a single to right to begin the 3rd inning. Carroll and Dove reached base on errors that scored Hickman and Wilcox. Walters’ fielder’s choice plated Carroll. Singletary and McKee reached base on errors that scored Dove and Singletary for a 9-4 Lady Bulldog lead.

Central used 6 hits and 3 errors to score 7 runs in the 4th inning and jump in front 11-9.

Back came Bladenboro with 3 runs in the 4th to edge ahead 12-11. Wilcox led off with a single, and Walters knocked her in with a single to right. Singletary lined a single to center, and McKee walked. Walters and Singletary scored on passed balls.

Whiteville scored 3 runs in the 7th on a single, 2 walks and 2 errors to take a 14-12 lead.

The Lady Bulldogs were down to their last out in the home 7th, but McLaurin laced a single to center field, and Hickman smashed a single to right. Wilcox pounded a double to center field that scored McLaurin and Hickman and tied the game 14-14.

M. Gore batted 3-for-6 with 4 RBIs and a run scored to lead the Central hitters. N. Shaw was 2-for-4 with an RBI and 3 runs scored. O. Young finished 2-for-5 with 2 RBIs and 4 runs scored, and P. McPherson tripled, had 2 RBIs and scored twice.

Kennedy Soles pitched 8.1 innings and allowed 17 runs – 6 earned – on 17 hits and 1 walk.
