Police officers are always at the ready to assist whenever a citizen is in distress. That was the case on Friday, Nov. 27, when Bladenboro Police Officer Brooks Yandle answered call near the Pawn South store.

Chief Chris Hunt said Yandle received a call about an unconscious male in front of the Pawn South store at the corner of South Main and Elm streets.

Hunt said upon arrival at the scene Yandle found a 38-year-old man without a heartbeat.

“He did CPR for about 20 minutes until the rescue squad arrived. About the time the rescue squad arrived, the victim opened his eyes and gasped for air,” said Hunt.

Hunt declined to identify the victim.

He added that he is proud of Yandle’s effort to save the man’s life.

“He’s a real asset to our department and I feel privileged he is a member of our department. This is an example of how, not only Officer Yandle, but every member of our department care about the community,” said Hunt.

Hunt added that each member of the department is ready to assist the community in any way they can.
