A Staff Report

Bladenboro, North Carolina, is set to sparkle with holiday cheer as the community hosts its traditional Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony today, December 1, at 6:00 pm downtown. This ceremony, a product of collective volunteer effort, marks the beginning of Bladenboro’s festive weekend, which includes the much-anticipated 50th annual Bladenboro Christmas Parade.

For many years, this volunteer-led event, occurring on the eve of the Christmas parade, has been a cornerstone of the town’s holiday celebrations. The commitment and hard work of the town’s volunteers, employees, and club members have been instrumental in decorating the town and preparing for these events, ensuring they are special and enjoyable for the entire community.

However, this year brings a slight change to the parade schedule. The parade, originally set for 10:00 am on Saturday, December 2, has been moved to an earlier time of 9:00 am. This adjustment is in response to the potential rain forecasted for the day. Participants are advised to line up at 8:15 am, entering off 211 Business and turning on Ballpark/Chestnut Street.

The Bladenboro Christmas Parade, celebrating its 50th anniversary, is a cherished tradition that has been bringing holiday joy to the community for half a century. The parade not only offers a festive spectacle but also acknowledges individuals and groups who contribute significantly to the community. This year, the parade will honor the Girl Scouts for their community service and feature Jane Walters and Sue Gallaway as the grand marshals, recognizing their contributions as the parade founders in this milestone year.

Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to partake in these festive events, as Bladenboro comes together to celebrate the holiday season with warmth, community spirit, and joy.
