The first Trooper Kevin Conner Memorial Foundation Inc BBQ fundraiser was held this past Saturday, December 7 at the Bladenboro Fire Department immediately following the annual Christmas parade.

BBQ was sold for $7 per plate. The foundation also had a custom golf cart raffle. Raffle tickets were $10 each.

Elizabethtown Pharmacist and business owner, Mrs. Gena Anderson Peed held the winning raffle ticket for the golf cart. She is pictured above with her prize, her husband, Mr. Phillip Peed and Bladen County Commissioner Charles Ray Peterson.

Lt. Governor Dan Forest donated a gavel to help raise money during the event. Bladen County Sheriff Jim McVicker won the gift with a $300 donation.

“We hope to raise as much money as possible to help high school seniors in Bladen and Columbus counties while honoring our fallen hero, Kevin.  Kevin was born and raised in Bladenboro and was a member of the Bladenboro Fire Department for several years before moving to Columbus County,” Mrs. Emily Dowless, one of the event organizers stated.

She added, “We greatly appreciate everyone who donated time or money, helped sell tickets, as well as Jackie Coleman and the Bladenboro Fire Department.”

All proceeds from the BBQ fundraiser will go towards the Trooper Kevin Conner Memorial Foundation Inc. scholarship fund. Before the event expenses were deducted the total raised during the fundraiser Saturday was around $25,000, according to Mrs. Dowless. The BBQ fundraiser held this year in Bladenboro is scheduled to be an annual event.
