ELIZABETHTOWN – Sophomore guard Malcom Bolden and senior center Javant McDowell combined for 34 points Tuesday night as East Bladen’s Eagles rolled to a 65-15 boys basketball victory over South Columbus.

 

Bolden who led the Eagles with 20 points fired in 5 baskets and 2 free throws in the opening quarter as East Bladen jumped in front 18-2. McDowell, junior Nazir Smith, and sophomore Zamar Lewis also tossed in baskets for the Eagles.

 

McDowell dropped in 2 baskets and 2 free throws to lead a 19-1 Eagle blitz in the 2nd period. Senior Rasean McKoy who scored 11 points in his first game of the season muscled in a pair of baskets for the Eagles.

Bolden threw in a basket and 2 free throws. Smith netted a basket, senior Freddy Wooten sank 2 free throws, and senior Charles Brown hit one as the Eagle lead grew to 37-3 at halftime.

 

McDowell powered inside for a trio of baskets in the 3rd quarter and totaled 14 points in the game. McKoy nailed a 3-point shot and another basket. Bolden canned 2 more baskets to stretch the margin to 52-11. The 40-point lead mercy rule was implemented with 3:38 left in the period.

 

Wooten drained a pair of 3-point shots in the final quarter and finished with 8 points. Brown pumped in 2 baskets and a free throw and totaled 6 points in the game. McKoy also tallied a basket.

 

Coach Aking Elting’s Eagles improved to 3-0 and will open Three Rivers Conference play Saturday, January 23rd at Whiteville at `3:30 p.m.
