CERRO GORDO – Senior Tyquawn Johnson keyed a 31-16 first-half surge that propelled West Columbus to a 54-41 Three Rivers Conference boys’ basketball victory over East Bladen
Johnson bombed in a trio of 3-point shots in the half and finished with 12 points to share Viking scoring honors with senior Winston Mason. Senior Tyvon Tyler followed with 10 points.
Juniors Jacob Priest, Javant McDowell, and Lefrederick Wooten tossed in a basket each in the first period for the Eagles, and McDowell tacked on a free throw to keep the Eagles within 13-7 at the quarter break.
McDowell worked the paint for a basket and 2 free throws, Wooten drilled in a 3-point shot and junior RaSean McKoy dropped in a basket in the second quarter.
Eagle senior Tayshaun Berkeley nailed a pair of 3-point shots in the third quarter, Wooten pumped in a pair of baskets, and McDowell muscled in a basket, but the Vikings held onto a 43-28 lead at the quarter break.
Wooten fired in a trio of baskets and a free throw in the final period. McDowell, RaSean McKoy and senior Juwan Baldwin netted a basket each.
Wooten topped all scorers with 16 points. McDowell followed with 11 points, Berkeley finished with 6 points.
The Eagles, now 3-13, will travel to Fairmont Friday night.
