HOLLY RIDGE – Dixon scored one goal in each half to defeat East Bladen 2-0 on Tuesday night in non-conference boys soccer action.

“They are a talented team,” said East Bladen Coach Jay Raynor. “But I thought we had the better run of play in the second half. We had several chances for shots on goal in the first half but couldn’t convert. We are generating looks but not taking the chances or attacking the goal.”

East Bladen held an edge in corner kicks in the game, but couldn’t convert, going 0-for-7. “Games can be won or lost on set pieces, and we have to do better,” stated Raynor.

Raynor added, “The guys played hard and our system gave them a hard time. We wore them down, and we looked good in the last 30 minutes of the match. We had several good looks but couldn’t punch them in.

“Freddy (Wooten), Jay McKoy and Milton (Estrada) had outstanding nights,” said Coach Raynor. “Jacob (Priest) made several tough saves that kept us in the game. Will Hester was instrumental in the midfield and played well when we were forced to put him in the back.”

Raynor noted, “We received quality time from guys off the bench tonight. Xavier McKoy and Sam Inscoe gave us some big minutes tonight. Jake (Evans) and Gabe (Barber) did really well in the midfield and really helped generate our attack and pushes forward tonight.

“Guys are working hard and coming together quite nicely,” concluded Raynor. “Looking to bounce back against James Kenan Thursday.”

East Bladen, now 0-2-1, will host James Kenan on Thursday at 6 p.m.
