REGINA, SK – Tar Heel native Brandon Council has started 3 of the 1st 5 games of the season at left tackle for the Canadian Football League’s Saskatchewan Roughriders, who have posted a 3-2 record thus far.

Council joined the Roughriders on May 25 – 11 days after the beginning of training camp – after attending rookie mini-camp with the National Football League’s New York Jets.

Seventeen days later Council started on the offensive line in a 17-13 season-opening win over Edmonton. The West Bladen grad started again the next week, but the Roughriders dropped a 45-27 shootout to Winnipeg.

After teammate Jerald Hawkins suffered a knee injury in a Week 3 29-26 Roughrider win over Calgary, Council was back in the starting line-up on July 6 in a last second 12-11 win over Edmonton, but missed Saturday night’s 33-31 loss to Calgary with a hand injury.

“He has been a pleasant addition,” Roughrider Coach Craig Dickenson told riderville.com. “We didn’t know what we were going to get, but when he came to camp we could tell right away that he’s a good football player. He has just gotten progressively better. Having Brandon play, and play well, at tackle has been great.”

Council finished a 3-year career at Auburn University in 2022 and was named the team’s top offensive lineman. He had started his college career at Akron University before transferring to Auburn.
