Patty Evers

East Bladen Athletic Director and Coach Patty Evers has been named to the North Carolina School High School Athletic Association’s Board of Directors and will serve a four-year term beginning today (July 1).

“It’s a huge honor even to be considered,” said Coach Evers. “It is one of the biggest honors that I have received, especially as a coach. A lot of the members of the Board are school superintendents or county athletic directors.”

Evers was nominated to represent Region 4 and was approved by the NCHSAA Nominating Committee and then by a vote of the NCHSAA membership at their Annual Meeting. Michael Baker of Fairmont notified Coach Evers of her nomination.

“I was surprised when I got the call from Coach Baker,” said Evers. “The fact that it came from him made it even more special.”

Evers noted that she will get to give input on the re-alignment that occurs every four years and other key issues. “I am excited,” she said. “I will be reaching out to other athletic directors and coaches to get their opinions. I will be representing not only East Bladen but voicing an opinion for all the schools in our region.”

The Board of Directors will meet through conference calls and two in-person meetings per year.

Coach Evers has been very successful at East Bladen. Her Lady Eagles basketball team presented her with her 400th career coaching win in women’s basketball back in February. Under Evers’ leadership the Lady Eagles reached the Class 1-A state basketball finals in 2007, 2009 and 2010 and the Class 2-A state finals in 2011.
