PEMBROKE – Former West Bladen star Conner Brisson cracked 2 hits and scored 2 runs as UNC-Pembroke rallied from an 11-0 deficit to edge Belmont Abbey 15-14 in 8 innings and earn a split of Sunday’s Carolina Conference softball doubleheader after the Crusaders won the opener 6-4.

Brisson raked a single to left in the 2nd inning then smacked a single to center in the 4th inning and raced home on MaKenna Sibbett’s 3-run double. In the 5th inning the sophomore shortstop was hit by a pitch and scored on Samantha Allred’s 2-run single that closed the gap to 13-9.

Brisson has played in 21 games for the Lady Braves and is batting .229 with a .565 on-base percentage. She has 11 hits and scored 7 runs with a double, 3 stolen bases and a run batted in.

Top performances include a perfect 3-for-3 game that included a double in an 8-5 loss to Adelphi and a 2-for-3 performance that included 2 runs scored in a 14-13 loss to Davis & Elkins.

The Lady Braves improved to 3-1 in Conference Carolinas play and are 10-17 overall. UNC-Pembroke will travel to Limestone College Tuesday for a doubleheader that begins at 1 p.m.
