It’s time for another season opener. This one is middle school football and it begins today (Tuesday) with three Bladen County teams in action.

Tar Heel is the lone Bladen team at home. The Panthers host Whiteville Central. Other games have Bladenboro at South Columbus and Clarkton School of Discovery at West Columbus. Kickoffs are set for 6 p.m.

The fourth Bladen middle school, Elizabethtown, did not have enough participants to field a team this season.

Here’s the rest of the football schedule:

Sept. 27: Bladenboro at Tar Heel.

Oct. 4: West Columbus at Bladenboro, East Columbus at Clarkton School of Discovery, Tar Heel at South Columbus.

Oct. 11: East Columbus at Bladenboro, Clarkton School of Discovery at Whiteville, Tar Heel at West Columbus.

Oct. 18: Whiteville at Bladenboro, South Columbus at Clarkton School of Discovery, East Columbus at Tar Heel.

Oct. 25: Clarkton School of Discovery at Bladenboro.

Nov. 1: Tar Heel at Clarkton School of Discovery.

Want to watch some games that are guaranteed to be fun and winning really, really, really doesn’t matter? Check out Tot Soccer at Bladen County Park. The 3- and 4-year-olds put on a show. It’s fun in its purest form.

TUESDAY’S PICK TO CLICK

Atlanta’s Michael Harris II hasn’t had a hit in five at-bats against Washington’s probable starting pitcher Patrick Corbin. Time for that to change as the Braves’ outfielder collects a couple of base knocks against the Nationals’ left-hander.

MONDAY’S PICK: Josh Allen will throw for 2 touchdowns and run for a score as Buffalo hosts Tennessee in one of two Monday night NFL games. RESULTS: Allen was 26 of 38 passing for 317 yards and 4 touchdowns. Why run for a score when you can throw it?

TODAY IN SPORTS HISTORY

1973: Billie Jean King beats Bobby Riggs in straight sets to win the Battle of the Sexes and the $100,000 winner-take-all purse at Houston’s Astrodome.
