DJ Mason Keys Campbell from Bladen County

Clarkton native D. J. Mason made a couple of key plays in the final minutes to help his Campbell University Camels edge Southern Illinois- Edwardsville 77-74 in Edwardsville Tuesday night.

With 1:03 left in the game, Mason took a pass from Chris Clemons and dropped in a bucket that gave the Camels a 75-70 lead.

The host Cougars closed to within 77-74, and Cougar star C. J. Carr who is only 5-foot-seven tried to launch a tying 3-point attempt over the 6-foot-six Mason but the shot missed off the front rim as time expired.

Mason finished with 9 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and one steal for the winning Camels who evened their record at 2-2.

Campbell returns home Saturday for their Big South Conference opener against defending league champion Coastal Carolina at 2 p.m.
