ELIZABETHTOWN – East Bladen’s Conner Padrick defeated his brother Cooper 6-3, 6-4 Wednesday in the Waccamaw Conference Class 1A Men’s Tennis Tournament Championship match.
Both Padricks and the Eagle doubles team of Jair McElveen & Ethan Strickland have qualified for the Class 1A East Regional at Herman Park in Goldsboro that will be played on May 3rd & 4th.
Connor Padrick swept West Columbus’ Anthony Todd 6-0, 6-0 in the semifinals. Cooper Padrick defeated West Columbus’ Johnathan Ramirez 6-0, 6-2 in the other semifinal. Ramirez and Todd also qualified for the Regional.
In doubles play, the McElveen/Strickland duo defeated East Columbus’ Brandon Smith/Noah Dibble 6-4, 6-3 in the semifinals, but then lost the championship match to East Columbus’ Yahmir Cruz/Gabe Hutchins 5-7, 6-4 and 6-2.
The Smith/Dibble team and the West Columbus duo of Tykece Hollingsworth/Jahmir Dorsey also earned berths in the regional doubles tournament.
