ELIZABETHTOWN – Brooks Carroll pitched a 1-hitter and struck out 11 batters Wednesday to lead Bladenboro to a 13-1 Waccamaw Middle School “AA” Division victory over Elizabethtown.
Coach Tim Benton’s Bulldogs remained undefeated at 3-0 in ‘AA” Division play and 8-0 overall and will host unbeaten Whiteville Thursday. Elizabethtown drops to 0-4 in the ‘AA’ Division and 1-6 overall.
Gaston Russ led off the game with a walk, and Corben Chadwick ripped a triple to left field. Luke Bryant was hit by a pitch, and Cole Brisson reached base on an error. Devan Stanley laid down a sacrifice bunt, and Gauge King smacked a single to right. Gaston Russ, Chadwick, Bryant and Cole Brisson all scored for a 4-0 lead.
Carroll laced a single to right field to start the 2nd, and Gaston Russ walked. Sawyer King singled, and Chadwick drilled a double to left. Cole Brisson and Stanley belted singles, and Andrew Wren was hit by a pitch. Carroll and Gaston Russ drew walks. Carroll, Gaston Russ, Sawyer King, Chadwick, Cole Brisson, Stanley and Wren all scored to boost the lead to 11-0.
In the Bulldog 3rd, Gavin Brisson raked a single to center field, Cole Brisson reached on an error, Stanley singled and Gauge King reached on a fielder’s choice. Gavin Brisson scored to push the lead to 12-0.
Will Allen walked to start the 4th inning, and Aiden Thompson smashed a single to right. Allen scored.
Chandler walked to lead off the Cougar 4th inning, advanced on a wild pitch and a passed ball and scored on Fox Sutton’s fielder’s choice.
Chadwick batted 2-for-2 with a triple, a double and 2 runs scored. Stanley finished 2-for-2 with a run scored. Sawyer King, Thompson, Gavin Brisson, Cole Brisson, Gauge King, Joseph Burney and Carroll connected for 1 hit each. Gaston Russ and Cole Brisson scored 2 runs each, and Sawyer King, Luke Bryant, Gavin Brisson, Wren, Carroll and Allen scored 1 run each.
Sutton singled and drove in a run for the Cougars. Wall singled and scored a run.
Wall started on the mound and allowed 8 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks in 1-plus innings, while striking out 1. Damian Maynor worked 2.1 innings of relief and allowed 5 runs on 4 walks and 4 hits while striking out 1. Sutton worked 1.2 innings of scoreless relief and allowed 1 hit.
