The Bladen County Division on Aging has many exciting programs and trips planned for this Fall.  This month, the agency debuted their first edition of the agency newsletter which will keep Seniors in Bladen County abreast of all of the activities taking place throughout the month.

The newsletter is free and is published by Liturgical Publications of Ohio, said Carol Mitchell of the Division on Aging. She said she learned about the company while attending a conference recently.

“The company representative came out to the Division on Aging and met with me and I filled out a questionnaire for vendors,” said Mitchell. She said the advertisers are what support the newsletter.

She said all of the information is uploaded locally. “I input the data each month and  submit it to the company,” said Mitchell. She said LPI will take the information once it is submitted and publish the newsletter and ship it to the Division on Aging.

She said the newsletter shows people the various offerings at the Division on Aging. The newsletter has a calendar which shows the various meals to be served each day at the nutrition sites as well as planned trips and various programs. It also offers a puzzle activity and information regarding the Bladen Area Rural Transport System (BARTS).

Mitchell said the newsletter benefits the Division on Aging by giving the agency greater exposure throughout the county. She said the Division on Aging is preparing to go through a certification process in the year 2020 called the Senior Center Operations and Program Evaluation (SCOPE). The SCOPE process provides a set of measurable indicators of “best practices” which helps to strengthen the Division on Aging’s programs. Mitchell said the agency could potentially qualify to receive extra funds by offering a newsletter.

You can find copies of the newsletter at all of county nutrition sites, the Bladen County Public Library, HeadQuartz Barber Shop, His and Hers, the Bladen County Health Department, the Bladen County Department of Social Services, Bladen Medical Associates, and Cape Fear Valley-Bladen Healthcare.

For Seniors who do not have transportation and wish to take part in Division on Aging activities, you can contact BARTS at 910-872-6330 to speak to a representative to arrange for pick up.
