ELIZABETHTOWN – The Royal snapped a 5-5 tie with a 3-run fifth-inning rally en route to an 8-5 victory over the Red Friday night in Dixie Boys Baseball action.

Bailey Williams, Tyreon Graham and Jacob Caulder drew one-out walks in the Royal fifth inning. Evan Pait singled to drive in Williams with the go-ahead run, and Graham raced home on a wild pitch. Garrison Tatum lifted a sacrifice fly to leftfield that scored Caulder for the 8-5 margin.

Coleman Tatum pitched a scoreless fifth inning allowing 2 walks and striking out two to pick up the win. Pait was plagued by 3 errors in his first inning on the mound that led to 5 Red runs. Teammate Destin Montgomery pitched 3 hitless innings allowing a walk and a hit batter while striking out two.

Jake Futrell, Britt Sasser, Walker Ward and Chase Knight all worked on the mound for the Red. Futrell, Sasser and Ward struck out two batters each.

Tyler Johnson banged a one-hopper off the first baseman’s glove to begin the Red first inning. Zamar Lewis smacked a double off the centerfielder’s glove that scored Johnson. Ward was hit by a pitch, and Carson Gooden and Knight drew walks that forced home Lewis.

Lee Barnes reached base on an error that scored Ward and Gooden. Futrell forced Barnes at second base, but a throwing error scored Knight with the fifth run of the inning.

The Royal answered with 4 runs in the home first. Pait walked and dashed home when Garrison Tatum ripped a double to left-centerfield. Weston Hatcher walked, and Coleman Tatum belted a single.

Montgomery knocked in Garrison Tatum with a single, and Parker Green delivered a single that scored Hatcher. Will Harrelson drove in Coleman Tatum with a single.

The Royal tied the game in the fourth inning. Hatcher started the inning with a single, scooted to third base on Montgomery’s hit-and-run single then stole home on the back-end of a double steal with Montgomery.

Montgomery batted 2-for-2 with a run batted in to lead the Royal hitters. Garrison Tatum doubled and drove in 2 runs. Pait, Hatcher, Coleman Tatum, Greene and Harrelson added one hit each. Pait, Greene and Harrelson had one RBI each. Hatcher scored twice, and Pait, Garrison Tatum, Coleman Tatum, Williams, Graham and Caulder scored one run each.

Lewis doubled in a run and scored a run to lead the Red. Johnson had the other Red hit. Johnson, Ward, Gooden and Knight scored runs, and Knight had an RBI.

The Royal and Red now have one loss each in the Dixie Boys Standings.
