WILMINGTON – Bladen County exploded for 11 runs in the 2nd inning en route to an 18-4 victory over Supper Optimist of Wilmington Friday night in the opening round of the Dixie Softball Ponytails District 9 Tournament at Cape Fear Optimist Park.
Bladen County will play the Cape Fear/East Columbus winner Saturday at noon.
Bladen County team members (pictured above) are: Maycee Kinlaw, Hadley Dove, Anna Claire Walters, Kynzlee Wood, Camryn Wood, Chloe Walters, Brissa Matheson, Abigail Dicicco, Bristol Allen, Ryleigh Miller, Kenley Smeigh and Adyson Carroll. Coaches are Dale Wood, Mike Dove and Jordan Allen.
Hadley Dove drew a 1-out walk in the Bladen 1st inning, and Anna Claire Walters, Brissa Matheson and Ryleigh Miller belted consecutive singles. Walters and Matheson both scored to put Bladen up 2-0.
Camryn Wood walked to start the Bladen 2nd inning, and Adyson Carroll hammered a double. Bristol Allen smashed a single, and Abigail Dicicco, Kynzlee Wood, Chloe Walters and Dove drew walks. Matheson yanked a single to left, Miller walked, and Kenley Smeigh was hit by a pitch.
Camryn Wood, Carroll, Allen and Dicicco drew consecutive walks. Camryn Wood scored twice in the inning, and Carroll, Allen, Dicicco, Kynzlee Wood, Chloe Walters, Dove, Matheson, Miller and Smeigh also scored as the Bladen lead grew to 13-0.
Chloe Walters and Maycee Kinlaw both walked to begin the Bladen 3rd inning. Dove, Matheson, Smeigh, Camryn Wood and Carroll smacked singles. Chloe Walters, Kinlaw, Dove, Matheson and Smeigh all scored to push the lead to 18-0.
Kinlaw pitched the 1st 2 innings for Bladen County and retired all 6 batters that she faced striking out 4 of them. Dove pitched 1.1 innings of relief and allowed 3 runs on 4 walks and 2 hits while striking out 2. Kynzlee Wood pitched the final 0.2 innings and allowed 3 walks.
Matheson batted 3-for-3 and scored 3 runs for Bladen County. Carroll finished 2-for-2 at the plate with a double, a walk and a run scored. Dove, Anna Claire Walters, Miller, Smeigh, Camryn Wood, and Allen connected for 1 hit each.
Dove, Smeigh, Camryn Wood and Chloe Walters scored 2 runs each. Kinlaw, Anna Claire Walters, Miller, Allen, Dicicco and Kynzlee Wood scored 1 run each.
