CLARKTON – Whiteville defeated Elizabethtown 7-2 Tuesday night in the championship game of the Dixie Youth Baseball District 2 Majors Supplemental Tournament. Elizabethtown received the 2nd place trophy and the Sportsmanship Award for the tournament.
Daveon Whittington hammered a double into the right field corner to start the game and scored as Khalil Moore reached base on an error. Elizabethtown was held scoreless over the next 3 innings and left 6 runners on base in the game.
Damion Maynor lined a single to left-center field to start the Elizabethtown 5th inning but was retired on Sawyer Barbour’s fielder’s choice. Tyler McFadden and Lyrik Lawson drew walks, and Grayson Leggett was hit by a pitch that forced home Barbour to trim Whiteville’s lead to 6-2.
Whittington and Moore slammed doubles to lead the Elizabethtown hitters. Maynor added a single. Whittington and Barbour scored runs, and Moore and Leggett drove in runs.
Moore pitched a 4-hitter and struck out 8 batters for Elizabethtown.
