HARRELLS – Junior Devin Gardner ran for 4 touchdowns Friday night to lead Harrells Christian Academy to a 48-14 non-conference football victory over Hickory Grove Christian from Charlotte.

Sophomore Ethan Spell scooted 13 yards on a quarterback draw play to open the Crusader scoring with 8:34 left in the first quarter then booted the extra point for a 7-0 lead. Junior Xavier Arrington dashed 6 yards for another Harrells touchdown with 3:05 on the first period clock. Spell tacked on the point for a 14-0 lead.

Gardner broke loose for touchdown runs of 4, 15 and 8 yards in the second quarter as the Crusader lead exploded to 35-0. Spell connected on extra point kicks after each touchdown. The third Gardner touchdown came 8 seconds before halftime.

Junior Sean Dickey reversed field on a 59-yard touchdown run that put Hickory Grove on the scoreboard 2 minutes into the second half. Senior Hunter Conner kicked the extra point.

Junior Sam Hope answered with a 6-yard touchdown run with 8:22 remaining in the third quarter that boosted the Crusader lead to 41-7. Gardner galloped 59 yards for his 4th touchdown with 4:35 left in the third period. Spell converted his sixth extra point kick that grew the lead to 48-7.

Dickey scored for Hickory Grove on a 4-yard run with 2:46 remaining in the game, and Conner booted the extra point.

Harrells Christian, now 4-0 on the season, will travel to Raleigh Friday night to battle Ravenscroft Academy in a Big East Conference game.
