A former Bladen County resident has published his second book in as many years. The book, called Crazy Beach Disc II, is a continuation of the story the author began in Crazy Beach Disc I.
“We’re super excited,” said Lynn Welborn of the accomplishment.
Welborn said the reception by the public of the first book was amazing and the reception for the second book has been just as incredible. A launch party for Crazy Beach Disc II was held on Thursday night at Hell’s Kitchen in Wilmington.
He is also planning on attending the White Lake Water Festival in May where he will have copies of his book available for purchase and signing. Wellborn said Bladen County readers will not be disappointed as White Lake and Elizabethtown will be referenced in this book.
Welborn, who now resides in Wilmington, resided in Bladen County from 1989 until 2013. Wellborn said he actually grew up in Carolina Beach but visited White Lake often with his family in the 1960s and 1970s.
His books take the reader on a journey of teenage adventure and angst while exploring young life on an island. Welborn said this book carries the reader on adventures experienced by Lenny from the time the character is about 15 years old through his early college years.
According to the book synopsis for Crazy Beach Disc II, “The wacky, sometimes touching adventures of Lenny’s wrecking crew continue in Disc II. The group of mischievous teens you met in Disc I has moved into their high school years and fully embody the exuberant decadence and unbridled enthusiasm that comes with a taste of freedom. Big adventures await…an attempt at hitchhiking cross-country, treasure hunting with the Ft. Fisher Hermit, and of course, young hot lust run amuck. “Like On the Road” and “Stand by Me”, Crazy Beach II captures the spirit of what it means to be young, scam tourists, and generally experience the angst of adolescent life.”
