ELIZABETHTOWN – Senior Maya McDonald fired in 19 points and filled up the stat sheet with 9 rebounds, 7 steals and 3 assists to lead East Bladen’s Lady Eagles to a 57-26 non-conference girls’ basketball victory over Wallace-Rose Hill Wednesday night.

Senior Alexus Mitchell tossed in 11 points and came up with 6 steals for East, and junior Maegan Burney racked up 11 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocked shots and 2 steals. Junior AnnaGrey Heustess threw in 8 points, blocked 2 shots and had 2 steals.

Freshman Iveonna Ward scored 5 points and was credited with 5 steals for the Lady Eagles. Freshman Martha Simmons grabbed 4 rebounds, and junior Karli Priest came up with 3 steals.

McDonald sparked the Lady Eagles to an early 15-8 lead with 4 1st period baskets. Heustess flipped in a basket and a free throw in the quarter.

The Lady Eagles blew the game open with a 28-6 2nd quarter blitz. McDonald blistered the nets with 4 baskets and 2 free throws in the period. Burney sank 3 baskets and 2 foul shots, Heustess drained a 3-point shot, and Mitchell popped in 2 baskets to stretch the halftime lead to 43-14.

Mitchell bombed in a pair of 3-point shots in the 2nd half and added a free throw. Heustess and sophomore Zoe Smith connected for baskets in the 2nd half.

Emoni Bethea topped the Lady Bulldog scoring with 12 points. Teammate Jamie Moses added 7 points.

Coach Patty Evers’ Lady Eagles improved to 2-0 with the victory and will host Grays Creek Tuesday night.
