TABOR CITY – East Bladen’s Lady Eagles rolled to leads of 20-2 and 33-6 en route to a 58-9 Three Rivers Conference girls’ basketball victory Tuesday night over South Columbus.

 

Sophomore Maegan Burney sparked the early East surge with a trio of baskets and 3 free throws. Sophomore AnnaGrey Heustess tossed in a basket and 2 free throws, and junior Alexus Mitchell sank a basket and a free throw. Junior Mya McDonald and sophomore Makayla Dixon netted 2 free throws each as the lead grew to 20-2.

 

Mitchell took charge in the 2nd period with a trio of baskets, and Burney battled inside of a pair of buckets. Dixon dropped in 2 more free throws, and freshman Zoe Smith hit one for a 33-6 halftime lead.

 

McDonald and Mitchell bombed in 3-point shots and added another basket each in the 3rd period. Heustess popped in a pair of baskets, and senior Lilly Lin flipped in a bucket as the East lead grew to 49-7 at the quarter break.

 

Dixon worked inside for a pair of baskets in the final period. Seniors Sara Gargala and Aaniyah Jackson pumped in baskets, and Lin hit a free throw for the final margin.

 

McDonald filled up the stat sheet with 7 points, 8 assists, 6 rebounds and 6 steals to lead the Lady Eagles. Mitchell topped the scoring parade with 14 points and posted 5 steals and 3 assists. Burney finished with 13 points.

 

Heustess racked up 8 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Dixon totaled 8 points and 4 rebounds. Smith grabbed 4 rebounds, and sophomore Karli Priest came up with 3 steals. The East Bladen defense recorded 24 steals in the game that generated a lot of easy baskets.

 

Coach Patty Evers’ Lady Eagles evened their league record at 1-1 and are 3-1 overall. East Bladen will host Red Springs Friday at 4:30.
