FAIRMONT — Junior Taniya Simms poured in 24 points Tuesday night to lead Fairmont to a 69-27 Southeastern Athletic Conference girls’ basketball victory over West Bladen.

West Bladen, now 0-9 in SAC play and 4-14 overall, will host Red Springs on Senior Night Friday. Fairmont remains tied with St. Pauls atop the SAC with an 8-1 league record and 20-3 overall mark. Fairmont will travel to Clinton Friday night.

Taniya Simms also grabbed 6 rebounds. Teammate Niah Smith pumped in 15 points and had 7 steals. Senior Myasia Simms collected 10 points and 6 rebounds, and Miah Smith added 9 points.

Senior Kiera Lewis led the Lady Knights with 10 points and 5 rebounds. Sophomore Natalee Sykes finished with 6 points and 4 rebounds. Junior Alina Chavez tallied 5 points and Holland Davis netted 4 points.

Taniya Simms sparked the Lady Tornadoes to an early 20-5 lead with 10 points. Niah Smith bombed in a pair of 3-balls and a 2-point hoop. Lewis drove for a lay-up and popped in a 15-footer for West. Chavez canned a free throw.

Taniya Simms racked up 7 points in the 2nd quarter, and Myasia Simms rang up 5 as the Fairmont lead grew to 44-13. Sykes buried a pair of 3-point shots from the left wing for West in the period, and Chavez sank a pair of free throws.

Seven more points from Taniya Simms and 5 from Niah Smith in the 3rd period pushed the Fairmont lead to 60-21. Lewis and Davis drove for lay-ups for the Lady Knights. Chavez turned a Davis assist into a lay-up, and Kali Allen cashed in 2 free throws.

Lewis drove for a 3-point play in the final period and hit an earlier free throw. Davis drove for a lay-up.
