BLADENBORO – Tenna Perry and Meryn Deutsch combined for 23 points Friday night to lead South Brunswick’s Lady Cougars to a 54-30 non-conference girls basketball victory over West Bladen in the season opener for both teams.

Perry sparked a 19-5 2nd quarter rally with a trio of baskets as South surged to a 25-16 halftime lead. Perry threw in 3 more buckets in the 3rd period, and Deutsch drained a 3-ball and another basket as the lead grew to 43-23.

Perry led South with 12 points, and Deutsch followed with 11 points. Teammate Matea Moye finished with 7 points.

Junior Holland Davis fired in a 3-point shot and a free throw in the opening period, and senior Mallory Bryan pumped in a basket and 2 free throws as West built an early 11-6 lead. Junior Alina Chavez sank 2 foul shots in the quarter.

Chavez worked inside for 2 baskets in the 2nd period and dropped in 3 more buckets in the final quarter to lead the Lady Knights with 12 points. Bryan connected on a trio of 2nd half free throws and tallied 7 points for West.

Senior Kiera Lewis drained a 3-ball in the 3rd quarter for her 3 points for West. Davis totaled 4 points, and sophomore Natalee Sykes netted a basket and a free throw for 3 points.
