WILMINGTON – Senior Eliana Padilla fired in the game-winning goal with just under 3 minutes to play that lifted East Bladen to a 1-0 non-conference girls’ soccer victory Monday over Southeastern HomeSchool.

Coach Jay Raynor’s Lady Eagles improved to 8-0-1 on the season and will return to Waccamaw Conference play Tuesday night at Heide Trask.

According to Raynor, Gabby Rebollar played a short corner kick to her sister Heidi who beat her defender and served a ball into the back post. Padilla was able to get on the end of the cross and “finished a great one-time ball into the goal.”

“It was a great finish,” stated Raynor. “Eli had a great game for us today. Eli and a few others were forced to play in positions I’m sure they weren’t expected to play in today. It was a well-served ball and a great finish at the back post.”

Senior Reese Hester recorded the shutout in goal for the Lady Eagles.

“It wasn’t our best outing but not our worst either,” said Raynor. “Great teams find ways to win and that’s what these girls did. They found a way.”
