BLADENBORO – Four different players scored Tuesday night as West Bladen’s Lady Knights built a 3-0 halftime lead en route to a 4-0 non-conference girls’ soccer victory over Pender.

Senior Lainey Autry, junior Brookee Singletary and sophomores Jazmy Funez Aranda and Jessica Verdugo-Gomez knocked in 1 goal each for West. Sophomore O’Mara McDonald assisted on 2 of the Lady Knight goals.

Junior Briana Carranza Toledo recorded the shutout in goal for the winners and was credited with 4 saves.

The Lady Knights bombarded the Pender goal with 20 shots in the game. Autry sparked the West offense with 6 shots, and Funez Aranda fired off 5 shots. Verdugo-Gomez sent 3 shots toward the goal, and Singletary delivered 2 shots. Seniors Kaden Thurman and Eva Ayala-Martinez, sophomore Anna Campbell and freshman Karla Mejia-Rodriquez had 1 shot each.

Ayala-Martinez keyed the West defensive effort racking up 17 steals. Kaden Thurman, freshman Makenna Thurman and senior Nadia Diaz Deleon came up with 13 steals each. Funez Aranda followed with 11 steals, and freshman Leidi Zuniga Labra finished with 9 steals. Junior Shamaria Jackson added 8 steals, and freshman Faith Wren had 7 steals.

Coach Kristen Parker’s Lady Knights completed regular season play with a 7-13 record and will now wait for the NCHSAA to release the girls’ soccer playoff brackets Friday.
