HCA students win illustration contest

Eight students were announced as winners of the 24th annual Illustrate Your Favorite Caldecott Book contest at Harrells Christian Academy. Each year, the HCA Media Center collaborates with the Art Department to sponsor a contest for grades K-5 in honor of nineteenth century children’s book illustrator Randolph Caldecott. Students read and illustrate a cover for a Caldecott Award-winning children’s book. The  Caldecott Award is a national award given annually to a children’s book with the best illustrations. This year HCA chose the very first Caldecott winner, Animals of the Bible for its competition.  Each student picked an animal of their choice to illustrate.

One winner and two Honorable Mentions were chosen from each homeroom class in grades K-5. Winners received a $10.00 gift card to Barnes and Noble.  The winners were as follows:Kindergarten -Britton Blanchard and Brooklyn Frederick 1st place, Aubrey Edwards, Mary Thomas Williams, Will Rivenbark, and Kaleb Funes Honorable Mention. First grade – Sarah John Jackson 1st place, Savannah Kate Stevens and Henry Stevens Honorable Mention. Second grade – Scarlett Rose Robinson 1st place, Ava Matthews and Fisher Blanton Honorable Mention. Third grade – Scarlett Graham, Addison Haney and Oakley Brice Honorable Mention. Fourth grade – Clara Glynn Hill and Trey Owens 1st place, Gracie Brice, Walker Clifton, Noah Tanner, and Kailey Pope Honorable Mention. Fifth grade – Jenna Lee 1st place, Camden Cummings and Collins Cole Honorable Mention.
