The old saying goes “It does not rain on the golf course.” That is absolute BULL. We watched it every day … and played in it most of the days.

According to Stacy Owen, a regular player at Vineyard Golf at White Lake, “You have to be tough to play this game.”

There were a lot of tough guys and gals on Vineyard this week. The rain came in bunches … and then let up enough for folks to get their round in. Vineyard has a great sandy soil that absorbs water very quickly. When most courses in our area were closed due to the rain … Vineyard was wide open.

In fact one day there was a deer wandering around the course … and Vineyard course manager Amy Bailey swears he was trying to get nine holes in.

The rain did affect some events. The Member-Member scheduled for Land ‘O Lakes had to be rescheduled and the Thundering Herd at Vineyard was cancelled.

According to Bailey, during the week, an average of 123+ golfers teed it up at Vineyard. On the weekend the hardy swingers number 160+. This week was no exception, it just took more time, having to play between showers.

It might be a good idea, if you want to play Vineyard Golf at White Lake, for you to call them at 910-247-6132 for a starting time. If you do happen to get rained out the pro shop will give you a rain check … or if you are like most of the “tough crowd” … you can play in the rain.
