CLINTON – Clinton broke open a 3-2 game with a 5-run, 5th inning en route to an 8-4 jayvee baseball victory over West Bladen Tuesday in the Southeastern Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

Blake Rozier capped the rally with a 2-run single, and Grayson Williams also contributed an RBI single during the inning that saw the Dark Horses capitalize on 4 hits, 2 walks and 2 hit batters.

Jackson Smith drew a 1-out walk in the Knight 2nd inning and circled the bases on a trio of passed balls to put West on top 1-0.

A passed 3rd strike, a hit batter and 3 hits resulted in 3 Clinton runs and a 3-1 lead in the 3rd inning. Peyton Moore tied the game with a run-scoring double, and Peyton Gomez delivered a 2-run single.

Ryan Dove led off the Knight 5th inning with a single, advanced on a wild pitch and sprinted home when Allister Russ lined a single to center field to trim the Dark Horse lead to 3-2.

Tyler Lewis reached 2nd base on an error to begin the Knight 6th inning. Lewis advanced on a wild pitch and darted home on a passed ball. Kasey Nichols was hit by a pitch, and Caison Brixey reached base on an error. Both runners moved up on a passed ball, before Allister Russ reached base on an error that scored Nichols.

Allister Russ and Dove collected the only 2 Knight hits. Allister Russ drove in a run, and Lewis, Smith, Dove and Nichols scored 1 run each.

Aiden Russ started on the mound and pitched 4 innings for the Knights allowing 4 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks while striking out seven. Allister Russ worked 0.1 innings of relief and gave up 4 runs on 2 hits and 2 walks. Brixey pitched 0.2 innings and allowed a hit while striking out one.

Gomez and Roady Carter both batted 2-for-3 for the Dark Horses. Drake Smith pitched 5 innings to pick up the win.

The Knights, now 0-3, will host Clinton Friday at ‘The Castle’.
