ELIZABETHTOWN – Freshman Freddie Wooten pitched a 3-hitter and struck out 8 batters to lead East Bladen to an 11-0 Three Rivers Conference jayvee baseball victory over West Columbus Friday.
The teams were locked in a scoreless duel until the Eagle half of the fourth inning. Wooten and freshman Brady Hollingsworth drew walks, before Xavier McKoy hammered a 2-run triple. Tyler Hill knocked in Xavier McKoy with a single.
Freshman Garrett Melvin belted a single that scored Hill, and Melvin came around to score the fifth run of the inning.
Freshman Zach Meares led off the East Bladen fifth inning with a single and dashed home when Wooten walloped a triple. Hollingsworth smacked a single that drove in Wooten. Xavier McKoy drew a walk, and Hill cracked a single that scored Hollingsworth.
Melvin slammed a double that scored Xavier McKoy. Jay McKoy smashed a double that scored Hill and Melvin and ended the game on the ten-run rule.
Xavier McKoy batted a perfect 2-2 with the triple, 2 runs batted in and 2 runs scored to lead the winners. Melvin finished 2-3 at the plate with a double, 2 rbi’s and 2 runs scored. Hill turned in a 2-3 performance with 2 rbi’s and 2 runs scored.
Wooten slugged an rbi triple and scored 2 runs. Jay McKoy smashed the 2-run double. Hollingsworth rapped an rbi single and scored twice. Meares swatted a single and scored a run.
East Bladen’s jayvees will host Fairmont Tuesday.
