East Bladen exploded for 8 first inning runs and Devan Stocks and Pierce Melvin combined to pitch a 2-hitter and strike-out 12 as the Eagle jayvees claimed a 9-2 non-conference baseball victory over visiting St. Pauls

Stocks pitched the first 3 innings, struck out five batters and allowed one unearned run, one hit and a hit batter. Melvin worked the final 3 innings, struck out 7 and gave up a hit and an unearned run.

The Eagles sent 13 batters to the plate in the 8-run first inning. Shy Pone drew a lead-off walk and scooted home when Greyson Heustess cracked a single to rightfield.

Melvin ripped a single to left, and Heustess raced home on a passed ball. Spencer Scott smacked a single to right that drove in Melvin. Tanner Meares beat out an infield hit, and Dan Tatum walloped a triple that drove in Scott and Meares.

Holden Clark’s sacrifice fly plated Tatum. Scott Howell, Pone and Heustess drew back-to-back walks, before Melvin knocked in Howell and Pone with a single that stretched the lead to 8-0.

Stocks reached on an error in the second inning and came around to score on another error as the Eagle lead grew to 9-0. St. Pauls scored single runs in the third and fifth innings.

Heustess batted a perfect 2-2 with a run scored and a run batted in. Melvin finished 2-3 at the plate with 2 rbi’s and a run scored. Tatum blasted the 2-run triple and scored a run.

Meares, Stocks and Scott connected for one hit each and scored one run each. Scott also drove in a run. Pone scored twice and Howell scored a run. Clark had an rbi.

The Eagle jayvees improved to 4-1 and will host Clinton Friday at 4 p.m.
